About this blog. About me.

Living gently. Loving deeply. Adapting daily.

My story

Why this space exists

When disability becomes part of your family’s everyday life, you learn to hold two truths at once: fierce love and real exhaustion. I want to use this space as a place to share the highs and lows of life.

Expect thoughts and reflections on life as a twin mum, and a disability advocate. I will write about bringing a new baby into a world where disability plays a huge factor in family life. I will write about the things we get up to – the days out we think are accessible, and the ones that aren’t. I will write about the state of the school system for SEN children, and the hoops parents have to jump through to access any support. I will write about life about a carer, and what that looks like in reality. I will probably also write about my hobbies – the things that bring me real joy among the chaos of parenting.

Who knows what else will turn up on this blog – I am hoping it will become a literary scrapbook of my life. It’s primarily for me – an outlet to let my thoughts out – but if I can offer any comfort to other parents experiencing a similar life situation, then that is a bonus.

About me

I have been blogging since I was 18, and generally speaking, I really like to write. I like to write about my thoughts and feelings, I like to write as a way of remembering notable things that have happened, and I like to write as a way to connect with other people.

There have been many blogs before this one, but the one I am most proud of is the blog I started when my twins were very small. It was called Eco Friendly Twins, and it was a place where I documented life as a twin mum trying to navigate parenthood in a more sustainable way.

While I kept it going for over five years, there came a point where life became overwhelming and I forgot to renew all the back-end things that you need to do to keep a website going. Despite many attempts to get it reinstated, the blog was lost and there is nothing I can do to get it back up and running. While I am a little sad about the loss, I am using it as an excuse to start again with this new blog. I still have access to some of my old writing from the blog, so I will probably try and post some of it here in an archival fashion.

I had my twins in 2019, and while they have shaped my life more than anything else, I had a busy life before I had them. I have an undergraduate degree in History and History of Art, a postgraduate degree in journalism (mostly undertaken to give my blogging capabilities a boost), and a PGCE. I worked as a history teacher until I had my twins, and still undertake marking GCSE history papers every year – just for the love of the subject.

Aside from the formal qualifications, I have a strong background in music having been a music scholar at school, the youngest member of NYCGB at the time of my entry, and attended the Royal College of Music JD along side my A Levels. While undertaking my postgraduate degree in Manchester, I was a member of Manchester University’s chamber choir, Ad Solem, which was a great privilege. That was now many years ago, but I still manage to squeeze in regular singing lessons, and am a baroque music enthusiast, especially when it comes to recorder music.

Since having my twins, my primary job has been ‘carer’ as both of my twins need 24/7 care. I work closely alongside my wonderful husband to make sure that everyone’s needs are always met, and that the twins are always safe and happy.

Despite this taking up most of my time for the last six years, I have managed to find snippets of time to work on all sorts of bits and bobs in an effort to keep my brain ticking along. I have undertaken lots of copywriting and media management jobs, worked remotely for a lovely PR agency, and much more recently, worked a term as a Teaching Assistant at my children’s special needs school.

At the time of writing this, I am 30 weeks pregnant with baby number three, and not capable of doing much that isn’t sitting and resting. As such, it seems like the perfect time to start up this new blog.

Here we go.
